The Alhojärvi cultural environment: Alhojärvi and its surroundings are old, wealthy Central Finnish farming landscape, with its flat or mildly undulating fields and grazing grounds. The vast volumes of arable land are dotted with little lakes and ponds. The view to the fields is uninterrupted and stretches far, but the area is framed by tall hills with forests of fir trees growing at the foot of the slopes.
Most of the dwellings are concentrated along the network of small roads. The wealth of the region is reflected in the housing stock: estate-like abundance is typical for the main buildings of the local farmhouses. The area has also had a good deal of cottage dwellings in the past. The preservation of the Alhojärvi cultural environment today should focus on conserving the local housing tradition.
